Easy Spring Brownie Bites

I love how kid-friendly these flower pot brownies are, similar to my Flower Marshmallow Cookies. The base is just a boxed brownie mix, so there’s no need to fuss over precise measurements or complicated techniques. My niece and nephew enjoy helping, especially decorating the tops with colorful M&M flowers.

We’ve made these for spring parties and even as handmade Mother’s Day treats. I used pastel M&Ms for a spring feel, but it’s easy to swap the colors to fit any occasion.

Ingredients

  • Brownie mix – The rich, chocolatey ‘flower pot’ base.
  • Ingredients on the box – Needed to bake the brownies.
  • Chocolate frosting – Holds toppings in place and adds sweetness.
  • Oreo crumbs – Looks like dirt and adds crunch.
  • M&Ms – Used to create colorful flower petals.

How to Make The Brownie Bites

  1. Prep – Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease two mini muffin pans.
  2. Bake the brownies – Prepare the brownie batter as directed on the box, fill each muffin cup ¾ full, and bake for 18–23 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.

  1. Add the “soil” – Spoon a small amount of chocolate frosting on top of each brownie and spread to cover.
  2. Top with “dirt” – Sprinkle Oreo crumbs over the frosting to resemble soil.
  3. Decorate with M&M flowers – Press one M&M in the center of each brownie, then arrange six more around it to form a flower shape.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Color themes – Use M&Ms in different colors to match various holidays or party themes, like red and green for Christmas or school colors for graduations.
  • Different candy flowers – Swap M&Ms for other small round candies like Skittles or Reese’s Pieces for a different flavor.
  • Frosting flavors – Try using vanilla or peanut butter frosting for a twist on the classic chocolate “soil.”
  • Mini cup alternative – Don’t have a mini muffin pan? Cut regular brownies into squares and decorate the tops the same way.

Tips for Success

  • Don’t overbake – Start checking a few minutes before the suggested baking time. Insert a toothpick into the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs, not completely clean. This keeps the brownie bites soft and fudgy instead of dry.
  • Cool completely – Let brownies cool fully before frosting to keep the frosting from melting.
  • Crush Oreos finely – Use a food processor or rolling pin for a fine crumb that sticks well.

Storage

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Keep them in a single layer to avoid messing up the decorations. You can refrigerate them for up to 5 days if your kitchen is warm, but bring to room temp before serving for the best texture.

Undecorated brownie bites can be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw, then add frosting, crumbs, and M&Ms just before serving for the freshest look and taste.
