Easy Football Pretzels Dessert

I’ve never been to an NFL game or even watched one all the way through, but I’m 100% here for the snacks! Game day is the perfect excuse to make something fun and festive, and these chocolate-covered pretzel rods are both. If you’re building a whole game day dessert spread, these pair perfectly with my Chocolate Football Truffles.

If you’ve been around here a while, you already know that I love cute food almost as much as I love easy food. I used almond bark for this batch of football snack, but you can definitely use real chocolate thinned out with a neutral oil like I did in my Turkey Pretzel Rods. Either way, these are super simple to customize and make ahead, which is always a win when you’re hosting or heading to a party.

Ingredients

Rectangular plate with pretzel rods, chocolate almond bark, and white vanilla almond bark on a light surface.

How to Make Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods

  1. Prep – Line a small rimmed baking pan with parchment paper for the melted chocolate, and line a separate tray with parchment for the dipped pretzels to rest.
  2. Melt the chocolate almond bark – Break the chocolate almond bark into pieces and melt according to the package instructions until smooth.
  3. Pour into tray – Pour the melted chocolate into the parchment-lined rimmed pan, allowing it to settle into a puddle deep enough for coating.
  4. Coat the pretzels – Roll each pretzel rod in the puddle of melted chocolate to fully coat, then transfer to the second parchment-lined tray to set.

  1. Melt the vanilla bark – Melt the vanilla almond bark in a small bowl until smooth.
  2. Pipe the laces – Transfer the melted vanilla bark to a piping bag fitted with a small round tip, then pipe football laces onto each pretzel rod. Allow to set completely before serving.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Use real chocolate – Swap almond bark for chocolate chips or bars; add 1–2 teaspoons of neutral oil to help with melting and coating.
  • Try different chocolate flavors – Milk, dark, or even white chocolate all work well for different flavor profiles or color contrasts.
  • Add sprinkles – Before the chocolate sets, add team-colored sprinkles for a fun, personalized touch.

Tips for Success

  • Use fresh pretzel rods – Stale pretzels can affect both taste and texture, so make sure they’re crisp.
  • Keep the coating warm – If the almond bark starts to thicken, gently reheat it in short bursts to keep it smooth and dippable.
  • Don’t overload the piping bag – Use a small amount of vanilla bark at a time to keep better control while piping laces.
  • Let them set fully – Allow the pretzels to harden completely at room temperature before packaging or stacking to avoid smudging.

Notes

  • Store the finished pretzel rods in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. Keep them in a cool, dry place away from heat or sunlight to prevent the chocolate from melting or blooming. For the best texture, avoid refrigerating, as condensation can make the pretzels soften over time.
