Easy Football Oreo Truffles

I have a confession to make: This recipe is the same as my Classic Oreo Balls Recipe, just shaped a little differently. But honestly, these football-shaped truffles are extra cute, making them even more fun for football season.

If you’ve made my original version before, you already know how easy they are to put together. I think these would be awesome made with Peanut Butter Oreos, too. The chocolate and peanut butter combo would be a total win!

I love that these are bite-sized, making them the perfect sweet addition to my Super Bowl party food spread. No need for plates or forks—just grab and snack while watching the big game.

Ingredients

  • Oreo cookies – The base of the truffles, crushed into fine crumbs to create a rich, chocolatey center.
  • Cream cheese – Binds the cookie crumbs together and gives the filling a smooth, creamy texture. Use full-fat, brick-style cream cheese.
  • Chocolate almond bark – Coats the truffles in a glossy chocolate shell.
  • White chocolate chips or white candy melts – Used for piping the football laces to complete the look. The candy melts will have a brighter ‘white’ color, while white chocolate will have a slight yellow tint.

Making the Oreo Truffles Recipe

  1. Crush the Oreos – Use a food processor to blend the whole Oreo cookies into fine crumbs (do not remove the cream filling). If you don’t have a food processor, place the cookies in a large ziptop bag and crush them with a rolling pin.
  2. Mix the filling – In a large bowl, mix the Oreo crumbs and softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until thoroughly blended. The mixture should be smooth and easy to roll.

  1. Shape into footballs – Scoop one tablespoon of the truffle mixture and roll them into ovals, then gently shape each one into a football by slightly pinching the ends. Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment or wax paper.

  1. Chill – Freeze the shaped truffles for 20-30 minutes to firm up before dipping.
  2. Coat in chocolate – Melt the almond bark according to the package directions. Dip each truffle in the melted chocolate, letting the excess drip off, then place them back on the parchment-lined sheet.

  1. Add laces – Melt the white chocolate or candy melts and transfer them to a piping bag or a small zip-top bag with the corner snipped off. Pipe laces onto each truffle to complete the football look.
  2. Set and serve – Let the truffles sit until the chocolate is fully set. You can speed this up by placing them in the fridge for 10-15 minutes. Once firm, they’re ready to serve!

Variations and Substitutions

  • Different Oreo flavors – Try using Peanut Butter Oreos, Golden Oreos, or Mint Oreos for a fun flavor twist.
  • Coating options – Swap the almond bark for semi-sweet chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or even white chocolate for a different look and taste.

Tips for Success

  • Use regular Oreos – Not thin or Double Stuf. Use the whole cookie, including the cream filling, for the best texture and consistency.
  • Crush Oreos into fine crumbs – A food processor works best, but if using a zip-top bag and rolling pin, make sure there are no large chunks to ensure a smooth texture.
  • Use softened cream cheese – Let the cream cheese sit at room temperature for easier mixing and a smooth filling.
  • Use brick-style full-fat cream cheese – Tub–style whipped cream cheese contains too much water and won’t set correctly, so stick with brick cream cheese for the best results.
  • Chill before dipping – Freezing the shaped truffles for at least 20-30 minutes helps them hold their shape when coating in chocolate.
  • Work in batches – If the truffles soften while dipping, return some to the freezer while you coat a few at a time.
  • Use a fork for dipping – Drop each truffle into the melted chocolate, coat it, then lift it out with a fork, tapping gently to remove excess chocolate.
  • Thin the chocolate if needed – If the melted almond bark or chocolate is too thick, stir in a small amount of coconut oil or vegetable shortening to thin it out.
  • Let chocolate set before piping laces – Make sure the coating is fully set before adding the laces to prevent smudging.
